Steve your article had a vey practical approach. Obviously as a consultant you wouldn’t write much about business re-engineering but your candid advice is appreciated. We at IBD “http://www.indiabusinessdatabase.com” provide business research in India and would like to link your article so as to provide benefit to our readers.

Great post with lots of things to think about. My company occasionally falls victim to the “bend the procedure in order to get the sale” syndrome - and we sometimes suffer as a result. It takes real strength to turn away business - especially in a down market - because some kind of red flag comes up. However, the whole reason you put controls in place in the first place is to be able to identify those same red flags before they become major problems - and they usually do!

I think Fayol’s famous fourteen principles for good management also need to consider along with these tips.
