Live From StomperNet: Why Off Line Companies Should Study Internet Marketers

February 16th, 2007 steve No comments

February 16, 2007, Orlando, Florida.

This week anyone at The Hotel Rosen in Orlando Florida is attending StomperNet or JV Alert. The real value with these conferences is that many of the best, brightest and most successful developers of businesses using the Internet are teaching and interacting with hundreds of smart, experienced and successful attendees.

Those transferring substantial votes of appreciation (money) have received far more in one day than what we gave. For me that happened in the first 2 hours.

A couple days ago I was talking with my former wife (we remain friends – which is how it should be) and I mentioned how a big part of the value I bring to my consulting clients is self-taught. She questioned me about that statement. We then discussed the significant role my work with learning from Internet marketers has played in helping others gain huge positive results for their business.

About 5 years ago I became a serious student of direct response marketing on line and off line and business development on line. In the past 12 hours I have had in-depth discussions with Brad Fallon on sourcing products in China, with Jason Potash regarding the use of article marketing for more traditional businesses and John Reese on website focus and strategy. In the past 12 hours I learned about important trends and new products emerging that can help all businesses.

As a member of StomperNet I will receive the DVD’s from this conference. However, watching DVD’s and being in the same room with all this energy focused on building profitable business is not the same. The best revenue building results achieved by my consulting clients have been by those who have implemented action steps based on what I have learned from conferences and training programs focused on building business. Those clients and companies I work with in the future will receive even more value as a result of my participation this weekend.

What is your business development strategy for this year and what are you doing to tap into the right resources for you to achieve that.

Wish you were here!!

May you and all permanently experience prosperous health, happiness and abundance

Why You Will Be Happy You Read This Message (Most Likely)

February 15th, 2007 steve No comments

I am a major fan of Randy Gage. I hope you enjoy the following as much as I did.

Dear Steve,

Ok, no use denying it. I’ve been remiss in my duties writing
you. Since we talked last I did some R&R in the balmy breezes of
Hawaii, just watching the whales go by, and conducted a program
in San Diego. After that, I journeyed to some not very tropical
places, like Houston, Madison, Wisconsin (minus three degrees),
and Indianapolis.

And speaking of Indy, how about those Colts? Yeah baby!

Unfortunately my poor mother is a long-time Bears fans. As if
that were not enough, she’s also a life-long Cubs fan. Throw in
raising me, and you have to wonder how much agony and suffering
one poor woman is supposed to endure.

Anyway I’m back in South Beach and life is simply delicious. All
the doors and windows are open and the weather is perfect. Those
pale tourists from the Midwest who came down for the Super Bowl
are gone, and only us truly trendy and beautiful people are
left. (With the exception of those pesky Canadians.) The line at
Joe’s Stone Crabs is down to a manageable 30 minutes, Shaq is
back in the line-up, and the Dolphins have a new head coach.

South Beach is back to its normal state of swaying palm trees,
half-naked roller bladers, and crystal meth labs working
overtime. I’m just kidding about the meth labs. Those are across
the bay in Miami. South Beach is only the dealers.

Anyway, it is the perfect time of year to live in South Florida.
Espanola Way is teeming with action for the Sunday Farmer’s
Market, even the crack houses have the windows open, and the
volleyball nets are up at the nude beach at Haulover Park.

And as everything was not already perfect, pitchers and catchers
are starting to report. Anyway, all this joy, fun, and seasons
in the sun has me in an expansive mood, so I decided to write
and let you know about a few cool things you should know about.

My friend Art Jonak turned me on to a fascinating book. It’s
titled, “The Long Tail” by Chris Anderson. It’s a fresh,
insightful, and thought-provoking look at marketing. Everyone in
business should read this, and Internet marketers should
absolutely devour it. This is one of those seminal thinking
books that breaks through conventional thinking like “The
Tipping Point,” “The idea Virus,” etc. Get it at Amazon. Now.

I’m part-way through the new book by Barack Obama. While I won’t
go as far as Joe Biden did when he suggested that Obama was the
first articulate black person to run for president, I will say
he is the best spin master. I thought Jesse knew how to work the
media machine, but Obama plays it like a violin. The book so far
is a brilliant study in positioning. No matter your politics,
read it to see how a master defines his image in the
marketplace.

I can’t remember seeing such heat in a US presidential race so
early before an election before. A lot of serious contenders, a
lot of jockeying for early endorsements, and not just a few
missteps. Looking at it not for the ideology or issues, but just
from a marketing context, there are some fascinating storylines.

First off, can someone please forward this to the Republican
party? Guys, the rule for this election is, “It’s Iraq, stupid.”
When even Pat Buchanan admits the war was a mistake, you’ve got
to realize this one will bite you. Learn the lessons of Vietnam.

Popular sentiment has shifted, and people have realized the best
way to support our troops is to not ask them to be sitting duck
referees in sectarian civil wars.

Special note to Republican hopefuls: If you have a choice of
appearing at a campaign rally with President Bush, or the Dixie
Chicks, start singing country.

And can someone please explain Electoral Collage 101 to the
Democrats? Guys your front runners are all unelectable. In the
last 30 years, America has elected only three Democrats
president: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore.

The common denominator is that they each came from the South,
and were able to pick up at least a couple southern states.
(With Carter actually grabbing them all.) Unless you nominate
Kevin Federline, you’re going to win New York anyway. You will
carry California anyway. But you still can’t get enough
electoral votes without snagging something down South.

For some reasons, the Democrats have a propensity for running
liberals from the Northeast – who are naturally suited to win
the nomination, but lose the general election. All those little
states with four, seven, or 10 electoral votes out west and in
the south still trump CA and NY.

I honestly believe America is more than ready to elect a woman
or black man president. But when it does happen – it will most
likely be one down south or out west. Which means – gasp – that
it will likely be a Republican!

Now of course if the President invades anyplace else, all bets
are off. Then the Democrats can nominate Federline with Ozzie
Osbourne as his running mate and still win.

It will be fun to watch. In fact, I’m thinking of doing a column
just on the ways the different candidates from both parties use
the Internet for their marketing efforts. This will play an
ever-increasing role in future elections.

Anyway, enough ranting about the vulgarities of the American
political process. Let’s get back to something else you should
know about:

It’s a great offer from Internet marketing guru Derek Gehl. If
you’ve ever wondered where he gets his most lucrative ideas for
generating massive traffic and profits on the Internet, here’s
your chance to find out.

He’s agreed to pull back the curtain of his private testing
laboratories, and that offers you an extraordinary opportunity…

Every month, Derek’s private team of marketing experts spend
literally hundreds of hours testing and researching all the
latest marketing strategies, tools, and resources in every area
of Internet marketing imaginable. They look at the critical
things like search engine optimization, copywriting, email
marketing, site design, product development, pay-per- click
advertising, traffic generation, and affiliate programs.

They throw out anything that can’t make you at least a grand a
week in extra profits, and focus on the stuff that is proven to
work. And now Derek has agreed to give you unlimited access to
all this data.

So if you’ve been afraid to start a website, or know yours is
not making you the kind of money it should, visit:

Marketing Tips
BTW, Derek’s also going to give the first 250 people to contact
him unlimited access to his team of Internet marketing
specialists, so move fast, and then make the most of it.

I’m off to Tampa for another softball tournament this weekend.
I’ll check in on the other side. Hope you have a great week!

-RG

P.S. Click over to Derek’s site and it could be the most
lucrative and productive time you spend this week.

P.P.S. If anyone asks you, I was dating Anna Nicole around the
time of conception.

Negative Viral Marketing

February 13th, 2007 steve No comments

In this article I am going to give you a link that was sent to me as a funny video. You will soon understand why I am using this link in this message. This is a very important reminder that viral marketing can be very damaging or even destroy a business.

If you are new to the term, viral marketing, in a nutshell, is where one person tells or emails another about a website, story, video, movie, restaurant, product etc The message usually starts out with something like: hey____ you’ve gotta check this out.

Recently millions watched the Super Bowl. Whether you like his music or not Prince absolutely “wowed” most everyone. The papers gave him an outstanding rating. He performed flawlessly in pouring rain. Think about the impact on his record sales and his performance price tag. Guess what song was my most recent purchase from ITunes.

On the same show was the Snickers’ commercial along with a rather long list of other displays of marketing stupidity. But let’s examine the Snickers presentation. (If you don’t know what I am talking about – do a search on the Internet.) Was the intent to build brand awareness? Or was the intent to test direct response? Direct response may have been the ultimate goal since different endings that visitors to the web site could vote on were planned. I don’t know, but the real direct response was the outrage over the commercial and it being pulled two days after the Super Bowl.

My view is that it has nothing to do with motivating you want to buy a Snickers in fact it may have turned allot of buyers to alternative selections. It reminds me of some the outrageous subject lines used by Internet marketers. Sure I notice them. But they don’t make me want to read the message.

Moving on: What would you do to have the opportunity to showcase a new product introduction on Dave Letterman’s show? I’ll bet you would be prepared. You would make sure you looked the part and what you were showcasing worked right. Plus I’ll bet you would make sure there was at least a subtle reference to your web site or 800#. Even the newest people learning marketing would know to do this. Look at this clip – amazing. Click Here For Steamed
Can you imagine being a celebrity using your name with a new product introduction and having it turn out to be a major joke – on Letterman of all places. Come on.. you can’t tell me that even Richard Simmons doesn’t have common sense. If he doesn’t, he certainly has staff could to show him how to dress and act since he is associating his name with a product. I would really enjoy having the opportunity of watching this with Joel Bauer - Mr. Persuasion. I can only imagine Joel’s reaction.

The point is, you don’t have to be a master marketer to get it right. Just use common sense. I am not a marketing guru but just this year I finished helping two companies get on track for 2007 where their sales will increase 50% and profit growth will be higher than that. Of course it is not all marketing. But without an effective business development plan in place along with a management system in place that quickly confirms what is working and what is not so you can take appropriate action, you will not hit your target.

Who Do You Listen To …Part One

February 12th, 2007 steve No comments

Generally, I read every email, every blog post and every direct mail piece issued by a small select group of people. These are experts based on my own experience with their content. In most cases I have spent time with each of these people at conferences and seminars. They have earned tremendous credibility in the business community for their discipline.

I am alert to new ideas and results from others. However, with limited time, they do not receive nearly as much of my attention as the expert class. Dan Kennedy is in that class and this week he is on the phone revealing extraordinary successes achieved by ordinary people. Dan calls this group Renegade Millionaires. I have a lot of material on what the Renegades have achieved. An hour with Dan will be time well worth spent.

He is making the times very convenient and Dan usually does not record the calls so you can listen at other time. So take a look and jump in if you can. This is a complimentary call. Dan does not work for free but he will deliver allot of value in exchange for your time. So book at time and grab a couple of pens and a pad of paper and be ready for some great Dan Kennedy advise.

Possibly Rich Shefren's Most Valuable Sentence From His Live Presentation

February 11th, 2007 steve No comments

The live feed was near perfect. After a few introductory comments Rich said ” work on yourself first, then build revenue and once you gain momentum, focus on your staff.” He provided valuable content for the remaining two hours of the live feed. He covered it very briefly but the statement was powerful…WORK ON YOUSELF FIRSt!! More on that in another post. For now back to the show.

In every presentation there are debatable points. However thousands, with me included, are grateful for the education Rich delivered using this “no money required” format. For those of you who think this presentation was free then you missed Rich’s point on the value of your time.

As a seasoned business development consulting professional (www.stevepohlit.com) I have helped many companies implement most of the techniques Rich teaches. I have many success stories. Few are with name brands. On the other hand Rich has a long list of name brand clients. He is a wizard at marketing. Look at the list of people who gave him testimonials. He earned them all I am sure. One Rich presented was from Jay Abraham. If anyone knows the reputation of Jay Abraham you will understand the value of Jay’s testimonial.

I have been paying close attention to the marketing strategies of the well known names including Rich. I need to step my promotions up a number of notches. How about you? A major takeaway for me is that it makes no difference how good you are, if nobody knows it then you can’t help them. Another one is his emphasis on evaluating what you do vs. having someone else do it. Maybe like me you have heard this before. I don’t know where I learned it. Maybe it was from one of the notables like, Jay Abraham, Dan Kennedy, Ken McCarthy, John Reese and the list goes on. Rich delivered an excellent slant on the value of our time.

This seminar was a great marketing example. Rich Shefren had a notable list of JV partners promote this. What was their motivation? Seems to me it is the sharing of the revenue from people who signed up for his backend program. But they wouldn’t have done it if Rich didn’t have the credibility.

Now it wasn’t that hard to promote. After all, how many seminar leaders run a live two hour feed from the seminar The result was a represented 10,000 people tuning in. Of course I have no idea what the conversion rate was. However, if 100 people joined, well do the math. Regardless of the conversion, Rich proved the technology works. Will it replace live seminars? Nope!! But imagine the possibilities. Think of a major event from a coast opposite of where you live or from another country. I could see mini conferences gathering regionally to network in connection with the main event. Why not? JV Alert started with 19 people around a hotel conference table in Philadelphia. Now look at. We’ll see where this goes.

As an aside, I was at the first JV Alert meeting. I met Ken McCarthy, Allyn Cutts, Cody Moya “Mr. Road Trip” Sterling Valentine and more. Every contact from that meeting will take my phone call and repond to my emails. Of course I will do the same. Value – priceless. You cannot replace that with a camera, screen and live feed. Speaking of Stearling – he is on the road again. Click here to see what he is up to.

There are a couple of techniques that Rich teaches that have not been ones that I have emphasized. Many of my clients have big issues that need addressed fast and often I don’t get the the process mapping phase. I will absolutely implement that with the newest company I am working with which is a $10 million business generating 80+% of it’s business on-line. It sources physical product internationally and in general is hugely successful. So why am I working with them? Simple, they can easily be ten time larger in terms of revenue and profits in 24 months. That is the target.

The content Rich offered in the streaming feed from his live seminar will help me. From a look at some of the comments at Strategic Profits allot of other people are happy as well. Thank you Rich, I am most appreciative for all the lessons.

May you and all permanently experience prosperous health, happiness and abundance
